The Healthcare and Social Sciences Department at Austra Training Institute is dedicated to preparing learners for meaningful careers in care. Our programmes combine recognised qualifications with practical, hands-on training, so that every graduate leaves with both the knowledge and the confidence to support people well.

Local qualifications

Our locally recognised programmes provide a strong foundation for learners beginning or advancing a career in the care sector.

TVET Caregiving Level 4 — an entry pathway into the caring professions, building core skills in personal care, hygiene, safety and respectful day-to-day support for clients.

Healthcare Support Services Level 5 — a more advanced qualification focused on supporting healthcare teams and service delivery, developing broader responsibility within clinical and community settings.

Phlebotomy — specialist training in safe blood collection technique, infection control and patient care during procedures.

Internationally aligned programmes

For learners with ambitions beyond our borders, the department also delivers programmes aligned to the Australian curriculum, giving qualifications that are recognised and respected internationally.

Certificate III in Individual Support — foundational training in providing person-centred support to people who need assistance with daily living.

Dual Qualification in Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing and Disability) — a combined pathway that prepares learners to work with both older people and people living with disability, widening employment options.

Certificate IV in Disability Care — advanced training for those who wish to take on greater responsibility in disability support, including planning and coordinating person-centred care.

Our approach to learning

Quality training sits at the heart of everything we do. Theory is always paired with hands-on practical sessions, so learners can apply what they have studied in realistic, supervised settings before stepping into the workplace.

We also place strong emphasis on professional standards. Learners are taught to work ethically, communicate clearly, respect client dignity and uphold the expectations of the care profession in every interaction.

Where our programmes lead

Graduates of the Healthcare and Social Sciences Department are prepared to deliver compassionate, competent and person-centred care across a wide range of healthcare and support settings. Our qualifications open doors in:

Aged care and residential care facilities

Disability support services

Community and home-based care

Healthcare support roles within clinical teams

Because our programmes include both local and internationally aligned qualifications, learners can build careers at home or pursue opportunities abroad with credentials that travel well.
